Gilbert Top 5: Places to Eat

Okay, so we are not foodie aficionados by any means… nor do we eat out very often. However, since moving to Gilbert, my eyes have been opened to the wonderful world of shops and restaurants around here!
So, we thought it’d be fun if we started a short little blog series on our “Top 5” of Gilbert (because, for reals people, there’s some cool stuff around here. And you should definitely come out to Gilbert to try all these places… and invite us to join you.) This list is by no means exhaustive, and is not necessarily in a particular order of “bestness” (since they really are all such different TYPES of food). But anyways, they’re all delicious and wonderful and I’m getting hungry just thinking about them…

Drum roll pleaseeee.
I now present to you our TOP 5 most favorite restaurants EVARRRR!

#1. New Mexican Grill (on the northeast corner of Lindsay & Pecos)

Okay, so to say this place is our numba’ one favorite is an understatement. We literally eat here every week. Not only is the food authentic and homemade, it’s also cheap! Anything carne asada is awesome. Luke is a fan of the breakfast chorizo burritos. The tortillas and salsa and chips are all made from scratch. AND, to top is off, there’s a chips and salsa bar (so you can tank up as much as you want before your meal comes!). The place is clean, the service is fast, and the same kid who works the register will be there to greet you, day in and day out. What’s not to love?

#2. Liberty Market (in between Elliot & Guadalupe off Gilbert road)

Okay, so downtown Gilbert is the funnest little downtown there ever was. There’s a watertower, a fountain, fun storefronts, and awesome restaurants (one of them being Liberty Market!). Liberty Market is a super trendy and modern place for all breakfast, lunch, and dinner needs! They have delicious healthy options, and also some culinary genius menu items (like their Sicilian Scramble, Farmer Sandwich, or Apricot Glazed Sandwich with a side of whipped sweet potatoes!). They have some great gluten-free options. AND, you can get a free meal on your birthday. (Nice, right?). Finish the night off walking around downtown Gilbert, sitting under the Gilbert water tower, or playing in the neat fountains.

#3. Sal’s Gilbert Pizza (off Gilbert & one block south of Warner Rd.)

Luke is a big pizza fan. In fact, he loves it so much, he makes his own homemade pizza all the time.
It’s pretty dang good.
I too, have become a bigger pizza fan since marrying him.
Together, we make and eat lots of pizza.
So we know our stuff.
This place, makes good pizza.
Really fresh dough, great ingredients, and a fun atmosphere.
One of my favorite pizzas we’ve tried is the Margherita. Fresh basil and mozzarella (and we add some more veggies). Super good.

#4. Phonecia Cafe (off Gilbert & one block south of Warner Rd.)

I love me some Mediterranean food! And this place is legit. It has really great salads, entrees, and baklava (with tons of flavors – from walnut to pistachio to pecan!). You might just recognize the menu if you went to ASU and visited their Tempe location (which is off Forest Ave. near campus). But the Gilbert location is actually right next to the Sal’s Gilbert Pizza place (so if you’re really hungry, hit up both of them!). One of my favorite meals (which I get with my Mother in Law all the time!) is the Greek Salad with chicken. Very yummy. And make sure you try the hommus too!

#5. Joes Farm Grill (off Ray & Higley)

Last but certainly not least is Joe’s Farm Grill. This another one of the delicious restaurants owned by Joe Johnston (aka the Joe of Joe’s Barbecue and owner of Liberty Market as well). This place has some of the best gourmet burgers, hot-dogs, pizza and salads ever! Plus, it’s has some fun outdoor seating for nice evenings. Some of our favorites are the Fontina Burger, the Pesto Chicken Sandwich, the Sonoran Dog (yes, that is a hot dog with beans, salsa and mexican goodness on top) and the sweet potato fries. The onion rings ain’t too shabby either.
They have some amazing healthy and non-meat options as well!
Overall, it’s a really fun family place to come eat great food. And once again, you get a free meal on your birthday here too!
